Coordinates: 61 ° 18 ′  N , 17 ° 3 ′  E Söderhamn is a municipality ( Swedish commun ) in the Swedish province of Gävleborgs län and the historic province of Hälsingland . The main town of the municipality is Söderhamn .

The European route 6 and the Gävle - Sundsvall railway line run through the municipality .

geography

The municipality of Söderhamn extends as a 40 to 70 km wide coastal strip about 80 kilometers along the Baltic Sea coast . The archipelago off the coast also belongs to the municipality .

The municipal area is largely taken up by the gently undulating coastal plain. In the northern part of the municipality is the main town Söderhamn, which lies at the mouth of the Söderhamnsån river in the Gulf of Bothnia . The river Ljusnan flows through the center of the municipality and forms two larger lakes, Bergsviken and Marmen , when coming from the west , before flowing into the Baltic Sea at Ljusne.

economy

Söderhamn is an industrial municipality in which the wood processing industry dominates. Apart from the main town, Ljusne, Vallvik and Sandarne are important industrial locations. There are six ports in the municipality , of which Orrskär is the most important.
