Norrbotten County is made up of the historical province of Norrbotten and part of Lapland .

Here you will find the Kebnekaise, the highest mountain (2,111 m) and the Hornavan, the deepest lake (232 m) in Sweden.

The railway crosses Norrbotten County in a north-south direction. The inland railway (Inlandsbanan) from Gällivare to Östersund ( Jämtlands län ) and Mora ( Dalarnas län ) is of growing importance for tourism . The iron ore railway ( Malmbanan ) between Narvik in Norway and Luleå in Sweden is one of the most important connections for Swedish freight transport by rail.
With the airports in Luleå, Kiruna, Gällivare, Arvidsjaur and Pajala , Norrbotten County has five commercial airports. From Luleå Airport there are national connections to Finland and Russia .
The port of Luleå is Sweden's most important transshipment point in the Baltic Sea region. Thanks to the use of ice breakers , Luleå and Piteå can be reached by ship all year round.
Tourist routes
The Silberweg and Inlandstraße are popular travel routes. Of the long-distance hiking trails, the Kungsleden and Nordkalottleden are the longest and best known.
