Sweden's deepest lake

The Hornavan is a lake in Lapland in northern Sweden , of the river Skellefte River flows through. It is located at an altitude of 425  m. and with a water depth of 221 meters it is the deepest lake in Sweden .

There are around 400 islands in the lake, some with unique flora and fauna. In the south, the Hornavan borders on Lake Uddjaure , between these two lakes lies the town of Arjeplog .

The water level of the Hornavan is now regulated to generate electricity . Its size varies between 220 and 283 square kilometers, it is the eighth largest lake in Sweden.
