Kaoru Ikeya

Kaoru Ikeya ( Japanese池 谷 薫; born November 30, 1943 ) is a Japanese amateur astronomer .

He discovered five comets between 1963 and 1967 , including the Sungrazer Ikeya-Seki, which was visible to the naked eye in 1965 . In 2002 Ikeya discovered the periodic comet 153P / Ikeya-Zhang and in 2010 the comet C / 2010 V1 (Ikeya-Murakami).

The asteroid (4037) Ikeya was named in his honor .
