Coordinates: 65 ° 35 ′  N , 22 ° 9 ′  O Luleå is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the northern Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten .

The main town of the municipality is Luleå . Other localities are Alvik , Antnäs , Bälinge , Bensbyn , Bergnäset , Ersnäs , Gammelstad , Jämtön , Klöversträsk , Måttsund , Personal , Råneå , Rutvik and Södra Sunderbyn . The Reichsstraße 94 and the European roads E4 and E 10 run through the municipality .

geography

The municipality of Luleå extends as a 20–50 km wide coastal strip about 50 km along the coast of the Gulf of Bothnia . The municipality is characterized by the coastal plain and the archipelago off the coast . Several rivers flow into the Baltic Sea in the municipality , of which the Lule älv is the largest. The city of Luleå lies at its mouth.

history

The municipality in its current form was formed during the municipality reform in 1971 by merging the municipalities of Luleå , Nederluleå and Råneå .

economy

Luleå municipality is an industrial and service municipality. The largest employers are SSAB , the municipality, the provincial parliament, the university and Konsum Norrbotten. The port is also of great importance for the community.

Attractions

Apart from the sights of the city of Luleå, Gammelstad deserves a special mention, a unique church village that has been a World Heritage Site since 1996 . The archipelago is also worth a visit.
