The historic spa facilities in Bad Rehburg are - next to Hofgeismar in Northern Hesse - the only remaining spa in Germany from the Romantic era .

history

They were built between 1750 and 1850, but go back to the year 1690, when the healing properties of the springs there were first mentioned in a document. The bath became known as the “ Madeira of the North” and attracted the Hanoverian nobility to Rehburg.

Construction of the building

The ensemble consists of the early classicist New Bath House (built 1778 to 1786), the foyer (1843/1844) with partially glazed veranda, the Friederiken Chapel (1841/1842), the former fountain house (1753) and parts of the old spa gardens. In the new bath house there is the so-called "queen cell", a bath chamber with particularly elaborate large tiles with late baroque and early classicist motifs and ornaments, which were probably made around 1780 in the faience factory Wrisbergholzen . The rediscovery of the precious mosaics, which until then had been hidden behind wallpaper, caused a sensation in 1978.

restoration

In 1950 the state baths ended and the facility fell into a twilight state until the city of Rehburg-Loccum bought the facility in 1999 and saved it from final ruin.

In the years 2000 to 2003 the facility was renovated. The New Bath House is now home to the Kurleben der Romantik Museum and the Blue Salon , which serves as an exhibition space for popular culture in the fields of caricature, illustration, computer animation, comics, cartoon, advertising, photography, film, music and theater. The foyer houses a small concert hall, a tourist information office and a restaurant with an outdoor area.
