Älvsbyn is a place in the Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten . It is located on the Piteälven River at Riksväg 94 and on the Stockholm – Boden railway line . Älvsbyn has 4976 inhabitants (2015). Älvsbyn is also the capital of the municipality of the same name .

Älvsbyn has developed into a tourist destination in recent years , offering leisure activities from rafting to skydiving. The place has a youth hostel with a small amusement park on the same site. The Storforsen waterfall is 40 kilometers northwest of the village . Not far from Älvsbyn is the Höghedenbanan motorsport race track (also called Älvsbyns Motorstadion ), on which rallycross races are held every year under the direction of Älvsbyns Motorsällskap (Älvsbyns MS) .
