Arvidsjaur ( Umesamisch : Árviesjávrrie ) is a place ( Tatort ) in the historical province of Lapland and the province of Norrbotten County . It is also the capital of the Swedish community of the same name .
history
In 1607 a church was built in Arvidsjaur to serve the mission of the Sami. The place was not permanently settled by Swedish settlers until 1757.
Next to the place there is a lake with the same name. Around 20 Sami families still live according to the traditional way of life in the community today .

The airport Arvidsjaur connects the place u. a. with Stockholm and offers two weekly connections each to Hahn im Hunsrück , Hanover, Stuttgart and Munich in the winter flight schedule .
Arvidsjaur is located on Silberweg ( Reichsstraße 95) and on Inlandsvägen ( European route 45 ). Road connections exist in the direction of Sorsele , Jokkmokk , Arjeplog , Älvsbyn and Boliden . There is a daily bus connection with Stockholm. There are other bus connections to: Arjeplog– Bodø , Gällivare - Kiruna , Älvsbyn– Boden - Luleå and Sorsele– Storuman - Östersund .
The Arvidsjaur Station on the Inland Railway offers summer timetable connections to Östersund and Gällivare. There is a steam train to Slagnäs on some summer weekends . There is also a branch line to Jörn on the Boden - Stockholm line ( Stambanan genom övre Norrland ). With the exception of the section between Arvidsjaur and Nordlunda, traffic on this route was discontinued in 1990. As a result, rides with bicycle draisines were offered to tourists in the summer months up to 2009; then the trolley infrastructure was dismantled.
Attractions
The Lappstaden (Seed City), located in the middle of the city center, is a church village consisting of around 80 well-preserved wooden houses from the 17th century . This is where the Sami lived when they traveled from far away to fulfill their church duty, which required that they attend a certain number of church services each year. Once a year, on the last weekend in August, the buildings are still used today when the Great Assembly Day is held here .
In the local history museum, the former rectory (Gamla Prästgarden) , handicrafts from the region are on offer.
There are boat trips on Lake Storavan . The Storforsen is one of the largest white water in Europe. The Swedish Army's K 4 hunting regiment stationed in Arvidsjaur offers guided tours through the forests.
