Inoculum

In medicine, the infectious material or part of a pathogen that acts as an antigen is referred to as inoculum . They may be, for example, virus particles , bacterial cells or fungal spores act.

In biotechnology , this term refers to the amount of cells with which a fermenter is inoculated (see inoculation ).
