The Arvidsjaur station is the local train station Arvidsjaur in the historical province of Lapland and the province of Norrbotten County in Sweden . It is the northernmost occupied station on the Inlandsbahn . It was built as the terminus of the Jörn – Arvidsjaur railway line at route kilometers 75.558. The second kilometer from Hällnäs is 327.639.

history

At the beginning of the 20th century, the Swedish state wanted to better develop the north in terms of rail technology. In the years 1926–1928, with the construction of the railway line from Jörn to Arvidsjaur in Arvidsjaur, a terminal station was built that opened in December 1928. It was not until five years later, on December 1, 1933, that the first train from the opposite direction reached Arvidsjaur. However, about 175 kilometers were still missing for continuous operation on the inland railway. The construction work was carried out simultaneously from the north from Jokkmokk and from the south from Arvidsjaur, so that continuous operation could begin on August 7, 1937.

Rail operations

For trains running on the Inland Railway Arvidsjaur is railhead in continuous trains must the locomotive implemented or the opposite cab be used in railcars. Traffic in the direction of Jörn has been suspended since May 27, 1990, so that continuous train journeys are no longer possible from this point on.

In addition to some loading tracks, the station has seven parallel station tracks, with the platform, an island platform , located between the middle tracks. Scheduled passenger train crossings do not take place, however.

The station building is inhabited on the upper floor, the waiting room and the service rooms for the dispatcher are in the basement . Outside the station there is a station board about two meters high that shows the passenger train journeys. However, only three travel times are listed here: the southbound railcar of Inlandsbanan AB to Storuman (- Östersund ), the northbound to Jokkmokk (-  Gällivare ) and the steam train of the Arvidsjaurs Järnvägsförening to Slagnäs .

At the northwest end of the station there is a depot with a turntable and a five-station locomotive shed . This is where the Arvidsjaurs Järnvägsförening association is based.

Storstockholms Lokaltrafik carried out tests of the winter suitability of its vehicles in Arvidsjaur in 2008. For these test drives, a section of the route from Jörn to the connection to Nordlunda was equipped with an overhead line , another with a power rail .
