Boundary stone on the road on the Swedish-Norwegian border

Silberweg ( Swedish Silvervägen ) is the name of the Reichsstraße (Riksväg) 95 in Swedish Lapland . It leads from Skellefteå on the Gulf of Bothnia to Bodø in Norway . It owes its name to the fact that it was once an important mining area for silver . However, the modern road was mainly developed for tourism.

On its way the road leads through the towns of Jörn , Abborrträsk , Arvidsjaur , Arjeplog , Jäckvik to the Norwegian border. Then it goes back down via the Junkerdalen holiday center . Between Arjeplog and Junkerdalen it leads through almost deserted area. The only public transport connection for the few residents is the 200 bus, the Silberexpress , which runs the route once a day. The bus not only transports passengers, but also freight and mail.

In Norway, the Silberweg then runs as Reichsstrasse 77 and the European route 6 to Rognan , Fauske , then as Reichsstrasse 80 to Bodø . The Silver Route is part of the Barents route ( Swedish: Barents väg ), a tourist route that leads from the Atlantic in Norway to the White Sea in Russia , from Bodø to Arvidsjaur, then via Luleå , Haparanda , Rovaniemi , Kandalakscha to Murmansk . There are also regular buses that cover the route in three days.
