Europaväg 18

It begins on the border with Norway near Töcksfors and runs through Årjäng , Karlstad , Örebro , Arboga , Köping , Västerås , Stockholm , Norrtälje to Kapellskär. In addition, the road is partly developed as a motorway. The same name is used for both the motorway and the country roads.
history
Until 1962 the section between the Norwegian border and Örebro was still called Riksväg 9, the section between Örebro and Arboga was called Riksväg 6, that between Arboga and Enköping was called Riksväg 11, between Enköping and Solna Riksväg 12 and the section between Danderyd and Norrtälje was called Länsväg 275. The route between Solna and Danderyd and between Norrtälje and Kapellskär had no number. In 1962, the entire area between the Norwegian border and Solna was renamed the E18. The section between Danderyd (near Stockholm) and Norrtälje has been renamed Riksväg 76. In the late 1970s, the section was first renamed Europaväg 3, after the reorganization of the European roads in 1992, then also Europaväg 18.
Since the 1960s, more and more sections of Europaväg 18 have been extended to form a motorway or completely rebuilt. The stretch of motorway between Västjädra and Västerås was one of the first in Sweden. All sections built up to 1990 were mostly only expressways, but were later modernized. The section between Järfälla and Danderyd, which is to be completed by 2015, is still under construction.

The E 18 passes through a number of cities in Sweden. In all cases the road is temporarily interrupted. The route goes through Töcksfors, Årjäng, Segmon , Grums , Karlstad, Kristinehamn , Karlskoga , Örebro, Köping, Västerås, Enköping, Bålsta , Stockholm, Täby and Norrtälje. The E 18 does not run directly through Stockholm, but only through the north of the city. Between Dandenong and Arboga, however, the E 18 is shorter and faster. The E 18 is also recommended for anyone who wants to go to the north of Stockholm, for example to Lidingö Valhallavägen or the Stockholm harbor.
