Hägernäs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hägernäs is an area in the Swedish municipality of Täby in the eastern part of the main town of Täby . It forms the border to the neighboring municipality of Österåker and has 2512 inhabitants (2003) .

The area had been inhabited since the younger Iron Age and was first mentioned in 1539 as Hegernes in reference to the herons (Swedish häger ) that were located on the Baltic Sea bay of Stora Värtan . Hägernäs was leased from Rydboholm Castle during the 16th century . There was a water mill there in the 18th century and the population rowed to Stockholm to collect and wash the city dwellers' laundry. The Hägernäs stop on Roslagsbana was inaugurated in 1917.

Hägernäs military airfield

For a long time Hägernäs was shaped by the Swedish Air Force , which had stationed the F2 Hägernäs squadron here , the only squadron in Sweden that owned seaplanes . After the squadron has withdrawn, the former military site is currently being rebuilt and marketed as a residential area under the name Hägernäs Strand near the water.
