Årjäng is a locality ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Värmland County and capital of the homonymous municipality .
The place is located in the southwest of the historical province of Värmland , about 30 kilometers from the Norwegian border at the northern end of the lake Västra Silen . Årjäng's economy is mainly focused on the production of mobile phones and car accessories, but the structure is changing with Sweden's membership in the EU on the one hand and Norway's growing prosperity on the other. The lower prices in the EU country Sweden and the rising price level in Norway due to the oil wealth create a field of tension in which cross-border trade is increasing.
On the new market square on the E18 there is an oversized troll figure , which is the largest of its kind in Sweden. Various artists perform on the balcony that the troll holds in his arms.
The center of the place has changed a lot since 2005. The focus of the redesign was on the creation of a new shopping center, a new hotel with a new market square in front of it, the development of the old market square and the demolition of the old hotel.
The old market square, on which the figure was located until 2007, no longer exists since the extensive renovation work in the center of the village.
The lake landscape, which is unique in Sweden and in the center of which is Årjäng, is important for tourism and ecology. The great lakes are connected by the Dalsland Canal , so you can easily travel from lake to lake by boat. Canoeists and hikers from all over Europe in particular visit the place to start their tours from there. The Glaskogen nature reserve (Gla-Wald) is only a few kilometers away.
There is also a trotting track in town , which the operator advertises as "Sweden's most beautiful".
Industry
The place is the seat of Lennartsfors AB , a manufacturer of forest cultivation machines and mopeds .
