geography

Lennartsfors (2012)

The place is about four kilometers from the Norwegian border in a varied lake landscape on the Dalsland Canal . In Lennartsfors there is a lock with three chambers, which as a lock staircase leads from the southern lake Lelång up to the short canal that has been blasted into the rock and finally to the northern lake Foxen . There is the guest harbor .

The Foxen forms the northern end of the much larger Stora Le , which is 19th on the list of lakes in Sweden. It stretches its bays west into Norway and south to Dals Ed, about 60 km away in the historic province (landskap) Dalsland .

history

Lennartsfors (1870)

Lennartsfors is an old industrial town that had a water mill as early as the 16th century. There was a water-powered sawmill since the 17th century. The name Lennartsfors originated around 1840 when Lennart Uggla and Gustaf Ekman founded an ironworks on Ränkeforsen. However, it was shut down in 1877. From around 1880 the buildings were used by a woodworking factory, which remained in operation until 1940. Later, a mechanical industrial company with a connection to the Swedish calculating machine manufacturer Facit AB settled on the site. Most of the buildings are still standing today, but are no longer in use.

Economy and Infrastructure

Today there is little industry in the place, the focus is on the construction of forestry and woodworking machines. Forestry continues to play an important role.

Due to the scenic location on the Dalsland Canal, many visitors come to Lennartsfors, especially in summer. Furthermore, holiday homes, camping sites as well as canoe and boat rental give tourism a basis for further development.
