history

Djursholm was first mentioned in 1432, at that time based on the island of Alt-Djursholm (Gamla Djursholm) .

In 1889 the financier began Henrik Palm , the company Djursholms AB building, took the major impact on the further development of the area. Attempts were made to build a kind of garden city in national romantic pioneering activity. The main building was - and is still today - formed by Djursholm Castle , which at the time served as the main office, pharmacy, post office and school building.

Famous personalities, such as the authors Viktor Rydberg , Natanael Beskow and Verner von Heidenstam and the artists Elsa Beskow and Alice Tegnér , settled in Djursholm and contributed to the city's good image. In 1924 all public tasks and administrative facilities were transferred from Djursholms AB to the city.

On June 6, 1890 Djursholm became a separate administrative unit within Danderyds landskommun . Between 1901 and 1914 the village was a minor town (köping) , then a town that was finally incorporated into today's municipality of Danderyd in 1971. Shortly before that, in 1967, the town of Stocksund Djursholm was added.
