Gunnar Edvard Heckscher (born July 8, 1909 in Djursholm , † November 24, 1987 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish political scientist and from 1961 to 1965 chairman of the Moderata samlingspartiet .

Gunnar Heckscher was the son of the economic historian Eli Filip Heckscher . Like his father, he studied at Uppsala University , where he graduated as a candidate for philosophy in 1927 . The Filosofie licentiat followed in 1932 and the Filosofie doktor in 1934 . Since 1933 he was lecturer in political science in Uppsala; he held this position until 1941. He then moved to Stockholm University in the same position , where he worked until 1948. Between 1945 and 1954 he was rector and from 1948 to 1958 professor of political science at Socialhögskolan , a previously independent college for social policy (since 1977 part of Stockholm University) and from 1958 to 1965 professor at Stockholm University.

From 1957 until his departure as party chairman in 1965, Heckscher was a member of the Second Chamber of the Swedish Reichstag . After his departure, Heckscher held the office of ambassador in New Delhi (1965–1970) and Tokyo (1970–1975).
