Carl Westman
Ernst Carl Westman (born February 20, 1866 in Falun , † January 23, 1936 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish architect.
After studying in Stockholm and a two-year study trip to America from 1893 to 1895, Carl Westman began working as an architect in Stockholm from 1897. At the beginning he mainly received orders for villas and facilities. One of his first larger works was the house of the Swedish Medical Society in Stockholm, which was built between 1904 and 1906 and is one of the first buildings in the style of Swedish national romanticism. Between 1910 and 1914 he built the Röhsska Konstslöjdmuseet museum in Gothenburg and between 1911 and 1915 the Stockholm City Hall , both also in the national romantic style. As a result, he mainly worked as a hospital architect. His last work was the Karolinska Institutet inSolna .
Carl Westman was also a major furniture designer. His furniture was influenced by the British Arts and Crafts movement .
