Kista ( Swedish : / 'ɕiːsta / ) is a district in northwest Stockholm , part of the Rinkeby-Kista district.

Kista is considered the largest IT center in Sweden , maybe even Europe. Kista earned the nicknames Wireless Valley and Science City through the settlement of important IT and mobile communications companies .

The Royal Technical University and Stockholm University are also jointly represented in Kista by the IT University to offer business-related training.

Kista is divided into a western part and an eastern part by the Tunnelbana line with the Kista train station . The industry is located in the east, while the western district is primarily a residential area. The streets of Kistas are named after places and people from Denmark and Iceland .

Kista's skyline is dominated by the 33-story Kista Science Tower with a triangular floor plan. The high-rise was completed in 2003. Next door is the Kista Galleria , one of the largest and most modern department stores in the greater Stockholm area. The complex also includes 14 cinema halls.

Economy and industry

The development of the industry in Kista began in the 1970s with companies such as SRA ( Svenska Radio Aktiebolaget , now integrated into Ericsson ), RIFA (later Ericsson Microelectronics and now Infineon Technologies ) and IBM Svenska AB (the Swedish division of IBM ). 67,000 employees work in Kista, including 24,000 in the ICT sector.
