Kalix is a place ( Tatort ) in the Swedish province of Norrbotten County and the historic province of Norrbotten .
The main town of the municipality of the same name is located about 50 km from the Finnish border at the mouth of the Kalixälven river in the Gulf of Bothnia and on the Boden – Haparanda railway line .

history
Kalix goes back to an old trading center. In 1472 a church is mentioned for the first time in written documents.
In the Russo-Swedish War (1808-1809) , a Swedish army capitulated in Kalix. This fact and further defeats led to the conclusion of the Fredrikshamn Peace Treaty on August 30, 1809 .
The place developed slowly and in 1910 had about 600 inhabitants. In 2015 the place had 7,495 inhabitants.
