Järfälla is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Stockholm County and the historic province of Uppland . The main town of the community is Jakobsberg .

geography

The community is located on Lake Mälaren about 20 km northwest of Stockholm city center. The area has a suburban character and is connected to Stockholm by a line of the suburban train , which takes about 20 minutes for the route.

history

Settlement of the area began in the Stone Age . There are still many archaeologically interesting ruins from this era to be found today. The Säby rune plate dates from the Viking Age .

The current church was built around 1200 after the Christianization of the population in the 11th century. In the Middle Ages the importance of the area increased, as several important roads led through the municipality. Between 1675 and 1905, the center of a larger administrative unit ( Harde ) was in the area of today's municipality.

The coat of arms, the origins of which can be traced back to 1568, shows a lamb wearing the archbishop's golden double cross. It was supposed to symbolize that Järfälla is on the route between the capital Stockholm and the seat of the archbishop in Uppsala .

The greatest population growth took place between 1930 and 1940, when many middle-class families settled near the main town Jakobsberg.

places

All the settlements in the municipality have grown together over the years. They form an urban area that administratively belongs to the locality ( town ) Stockholm . The only exception is the small village-like place ( småort ) Lund. Larger districts are:
