Tyresö is a municipality ( Swedish kommun ) in the Swedish province of Stockholm County and the historic province of Södermanland . The main town of the municipality is Bollmora .

geography

The community is located on the Baltic coast and also part of the archipelago of Stockholm . The area was formed by the last ice age with flat hills and trough-like valleys that are rich in lakes. In the south there are jungle-like areas that are partially protected as a nature reserve. At 84 meters above sea level, Telegrafberget is the highest point in the municipality.

Tyresö borders the municipalities of Stockholm and Nacka in the north, Haninge in the south, Huddinge in the west and Värmdö in the east .

history

The first people came to the municipality 3000 years ago, but permanent settlements did not exist until the 7th century. In the 14th century an estate was built that three centuries later ruled large parts of what is now Stockholm County . During this time Gabriel Oxenstierna had the castle and the church of Tyresö built.

Due to the high-energy rivers between the many lakes, Tyresö developed into an industrial center near Stockholm. There were mills , rolling mills , forges , paper mills , sawmills and brickworks here . None of these factories has survived to this day. Only the mill at Uddby was converted into a hydroelectric power station after 1895, which today is the only one of its kind in the Stockholm area.

At the beginning of the 20th century, large parts of the estate were divided up and converted into areas with summer houses. In the 1950s, larger residential areas were built in the main town of Bollmora in connection with the Swedish million-dollar program . During this time the population of the place grew from 5,000 to over 40,000.
