history

Märsta was only a small place whose inn was an important stop for the postmen on the Stockholm-Uppsala route. A first boom came in 1866 with the establishment of a station on the new railway line. In the course of the Swedish million dollar program in the 1960s, housing developments were to be built on the four surrounding hills. Ultimately, however, the building was only built on two hills, as the other two were too close to the approach lane for Arlanda Airport. As a result, the town center, which was built according to plan, is now more on the edge of the settlement.

In the 1980s, many dealers moved to the Arlandastad business park , which was built directly on the motorway, which had a negative impact on Märsta's infrastructure.
