The Arlanda Jets are a Swedish American football team from Märsta , about 35 km north of Stockholm . The club's name was based on the nearby Arlanda airport . The association was founded in 1989.
history
The history of the Jets begins with a last place in the lowest league in 1989, they were virtually the weakest team in Sweden, but that had already reached their lowest point and as a result things went steadily upwards.
In the 1991 season, the team was able to advance to the Super Series , the highest Swedish league, for the first time . But after two seasons, relegation to the second division was due. There was a generation change in the team, successful youth players joined the men's team and in 1997 the jets were first class again, but only for one year.
Too strong for the second division, after a season without a defeat, the direct promotion was possible. Since then, the jets have been able to maintain and establish themselves in the super series. The highlights of the development were the so far only championship title among the seniors in the 2003 season and the EFL participation in 2004, where one could not reach the quarter-finals only because of the poor touchdown ratio against the Moscow Patriots.
After the runner-up in 2008, the Jets had to go to the relegation relegation in 2009, where they prevailed against the Uppsala 86ers with 44:10. Nevertheless, the Jets were able to advance to third place in the all-time table of the super series .
More teams
In addition to the men's team, the Jets have several junior teams in play. The most successful is the U-19s, who have won four championship honors and four runner-up championships. A Swedish championship and a runner-up are already on the books for the U-16s. The teams U-15 and U-17 could each move into the final once.
useful information
In 1991 a Jets player, Stefan Öhrvall, was one of the Nationals of the World League of American Football .
