Mitch Bruijsten (born March 24, 1989 in Nijmegen ) is a Dutch ice hockey player who has been playing for the Tilburg Trappers in the German Oberliga Nord since 2015 .

Career

Clubs

Bruijsten, son of the former Dutch national player Jan Bruijsten and younger brother of national player Kevin Bruijsten , began his career as an ice hockey player with Moskitos Essen in Germany, for which he played in the youth and junior leagues for three years. He then moved to the United States , where he first played for two years with the Sioux City Musketeers in the United States Hockey League . From 2009 to 2012 he studied at the University of Alaska Anchorage and played for their team. In 2012 he moved to the reigning Dutch champion Ruijters Eaters Geleen in the honor division . But in 2013 he moved back to the United States and initially played for Mississippi Surge in the Southern Professional Hockey League . During the 2013/14 season he moved to California to Stockton Thunder in the ECHL and then on to league competitor Fort Wayne Komets . In 2014 he returned to the Netherlands and joined the Heerenveen Flyers , where he was the top scorer and top scorer in the league. When the Dutch champions Tilburg Trappers were accepted into the German Oberliga Nord in 2015 , he joined the team from the province of North Brabant and won the German Oberliga championship there in the first three seasons.

International

For the Netherlands, Bruijsten took part in the Division II games of the U18 World Junior Championship in 2006 and 2007 , when he was instrumental in the promotion of the Dutch to Division I with eight goals in five games, as well as the U20 World Junior Championship in 2007 and 2009 part. After he had convinced again with nine goals in five games in 2009, he made his debut at the World Cup of Division I in 2009 for the men's national team , but did not score in five appearances there.

During his time in Alaska he did not play internationally for the Netherlands. So he was only used again in the national team at the Group B tournament of Division I of the 2012 World Cup . At the 2013 World Cup , in which the Netherlands continued to compete in Group B of Division I, he scored three goals, including the 1-0 in a 5-4 win against Estonia after just 18 seconds, the first goal of the tournament. He was also on the ice for the Netherlands in Division I in 2014 and 2015 . After the Dutch were relegated without Bruijsten, he played in Division II in 2018 and achieved promotion there. He also represented his colors in the qualifying tournaments for the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018 .
