Ice Hockey Eredivisie (Netherlands)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ice hockey Eredivisie was the top division in Dutch ice hockey from 1945 to 2015 . The Eerste divisie was held below the Eredivisie .

history

After the Second World War, the league was founded with only three participating teams at the time, the HHIJC Den Haag became champions in the first season in 1945/46 . Game operations were completely suspended between 1949 and 1964, and then a new beginning followed. Over the next few years, the league was repeatedly topped up by additional teams, the high point with ten participating teams was first reached in the 1971/72 season. Since ice hockey is not one of the most popular sports in the Netherlands, such as football , the number of teams has fluctuated greatly due to economic problems to this day. The last high point with ten teams was reached in the 1993/94 season, the absolute low of the last few years was reached in 2003/04 when only four clubs took part in the league. The league's record champions are the Tilburg Trappers with fifteen championship titles.

In the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons, the North Sea Cup was played together with the teams of the ice hockey Eredivisie (Belgium) . In 2012 this was abolished after only two years, but Belgian teams could then also take part in the Dutch Eredivisie. After the end of the 2014/15 season , the Ehrendivision, like its Belgian counterpart , was dissolved and merged into a common division, the BeNe League . Ten Dutch and six Belgian teams took part in this in the first season .
