history

The Amstel Tijgers were founded in 1963 as the successor club to A.IJ.HC Amsterdam , which became champions in 1950 and cup winners in 1939. After winning the Cup in 1980, the new club won the double in Dutch ice hockey for the first time in the 1984/85 season. However, the team from Amsterdam had its strongest phase at the beginning of the 21st century, when they won four championship titles between 2000 and 2007. In addition, they were successful five times in the national cup and three times in the coupe of Lage Landen during this period.

In 2010, the professional club withdrew from gaming operations due to financial problems and was dissolved. The Amsterdam Capitals (now Amsterdam G's) were founded as their successors , while the Amstel Tijgers continue to exist exclusively as an amateur club and have been back in the Eerste divisie , the country's second highest division, since 2014 . They have been playing in the new Belgian-Dutch BeNe League since 2015 .
