The BeNe League 2015/16 was the first season of the joint highest ice hockey league in Belgium and the Netherlands . 16 teams took part in it.

Attendees

The clubs of the previous Belgian Eredivise and the Dutch Eredivise and the and Eerste divisie could apply for the league . The 18 interested teams were divided into two groups for the first season (2014/15 league in brackets):

Group A Group B

Utrecht withdrew its application in June. The GIJS Bears Groningen withdrew to the Eerste divisie shortly before the start of the season.

The teams were allowed to use two import players. Dutch and Belgian players did not count as import players, as did players of other nationalities who had played in the Netherlands or Belgium for at least four years.

mode

A single round (home and away leg) was played within each group. Each team in Group A played once against each team in Group B, either at home or away. Each team had 22 games.

The first four clubs in each group qualified for the play-offs. The quarter-finals in the best-of-two, semi-finals and finals in the best-of-three were played here.

The winner of the BeNeLeague was also the national champion of his country. If the finalist was from the other country, he was national champion in his country. Otherwise, the two best-placed teams from the other country played the national championship parallel to the BeNeLeague final.

The participants in the play-offs continued to qualify for the 1st division of the BeNe League 2016/17 , while the remaining teams are divided into the 2nd division.
