The 2015/16 Metal Ligaen season was the 59th season since the founding of the top division in Danish ice hockey , which has been called Metal Ligaen since 2014 . Esbjerg Energy became Danish champions for the first time, defeating Herning Blue Fox in six games . For the parent club Esbjerg IK it was the sixth championship, the first since the 2003/04 season . Third place went to Frederikshavn White Hawks in 2 games against last year's champion SønderjyskE Ishockey .

In the main round , the 10 clubs complete a triple round with 45 games per club. The 5 worst teams from the previous season have 23 home games, while the best 5 only have 22 home games. The eight best-placed teams qualified for the play-off quarter-finals. In the first two playoff rounds, the teams may choose their playoff opponent in the order of their final placements, whereby the first placed may choose his opponent first. All play-off games from the quarter-finals to the final are played in the best-of-seven mode. There are three points for a win in regular time, two points for a win after overtime or a shootout and one point for a loss after overtime or a shootout.

Playoffs

In the playoffs, the best 8 teams in the main round play against each other in the Best of Seven mode (exception: game for third place). The 4 best teams in the main round choose their opponent for the quarter-finals from the teams in places 5 to 8
, based on their placement. The playoffs begin on March 4, 2016 with the quarter-finals. The start of the semi-finals is scheduled for March 22nd, 2016 and the finals for April 8th. If the previous games do not cover the full distance, the semi-finals and the final start at an earlier point in time. The game is played on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
