The 1976/77 season was the 20th season of the 1st division , the highest Danish ice hockey division . Champion was for the second time in the history of the Herning IK club . The Hellerup IK rose to the second division.

In the main round, each of the ten teams played a total of 18 games. The six best-placed teams qualified for the final round, the first-placed champions. The last placed in the main round rose to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
