The 1979/80 season was the 23rd season of the 1st division , the highest Danish ice hockey division . Champion was for the second time in the history of the Vojens IK . Hvidovre Ishockey was relegated to the second division.

In the main round, each of the eight teams played a total of 28 games. The first place in the main round won the championship title. The last placed in the main round rose to the second division. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
