history

Esbjerg IK in its current form was founded on November 4, 1964, but an ice hockey team already existed in the city under this name. With five Danish championship titles and ten times the runner-up position, the club is one of the most successful in Denmark.

Esbjerg IK took part in several European cup competitions. In the 1969/70 season , the club failed in the European Cup in the first round at EV Füssen from Germany. In the same competition they were eliminated in the 1988/89 season after defeats against HK ZSKA Moscow , SC Dynamo Berlin and Újpesti TE as the bottom of the group A from the preliminary round. In 1998 and 2005 Esbjerg competed in the IIHF Continental Cup , but both times did not get beyond the group stage.

Following the 2004/05 season, the club's professional license was taken over by the Esbjerg fB football club , which was able to expand its range of sports. The new team then appeared under the name EfB Ishockey in the AL-Bank Ligaen , while the Esbjerg IK only has a youth and amateur department. The latter belongs to Denmark's second division, the 1st division .
