The Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble (official name: Grenoble Métropole Hockey 38 ) are a French ice hockey team from Grenoble , which was founded in 1963 and has played continuously in the Ligue Magnus , the highest French ice hockey league , since the 2000/01 season .
The club plays its home games in the 3,496-seat Pôle Sud .
history
After the club was founded in 1963, the team led by Albert Fontaine, reporter of the Dauphiné libéré , was given the nickname Brûleurs de Loups (literally in German: Burners of the Wolves ), but the club's professional team has only officially borne this name since 1992.
In the early 1980s and 1990s the team won the French championship four times. A complete upheaval followed, which was closely linked to a new organization and the construction of the new stadium in 2001. The most successful phase in the club's history to date followed from 2004. First Grenoble was runner-up in 2004 and reached the final of the Coupe de France , three years later succeeded in the 2006/07 season under coach Gérald Guennelon winning the fifth championship and the Coupe de la Ligue .
After the previous coach Guennelon left the club after the double in 2007, Grenoble signed the Swede Mats Lusth, an experienced former Elitserien player who won the Swedish championship three times in his playing career. Grenoble was able to continue its success under Lusth, winning the Trophée des Champions and the Coupe de France in 2008, as well as the Coupe de la Ligue at the end of December 2008 . In the 2008/09 season Grenoble reached the triple of championship, cup and league cup for the first time in the club's history. In 2011 the league cup could be won again. In 2015, the team won the main round of Ligue Magnus, but was eliminated in the playoff quarter-finals against the Club des Patineurs et Hockeyeurs Dijonnais . The seventh championship was won in 2019.
