Alexandre Texier (born September 13, 1999 in Grenoble ) is a French ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League since May 2018 and for them and their farm team , the Cleveland Monsters , in the American since March 2019 Hockey League plays on the position of the center . Texier became the first France-trained player to be selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2017 .
Career
Texier, whose father Fabrice was also a professional ice hockey player in the late 1980s and early 1990s, spent his junior days in the youth department of Grenoble Métropole Hockey 38 . At the age of 14, the attacker gained his first experience in the club's U18 team, where he demonstrated his talent with eleven points in eight games. With the beginning of the following season he was a regular player for the team and won the French U18 championship at the end of the season. In the 2015/16 season Texier dominated the league with 91 scorer points in 23 appearances. He also came to 17 games in the U22 team, where he scored another 28 times.
At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , the 17-year-old made his debut in the club's professional team, the Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble , in the Ligue Magnus . There he immediately became a regular player, collected 29 points in 52 games and received the trophy Jean-Pierre Graff as newcomer of the year at the end of the season . The season was crowned by winning the French championship . Subsequently, the offensive player was selected as the first ever trained in France player in the NHL Entry Draft 2017 in the second round in 45th place by the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League . Instead of moving directly to North America, however, where he was selected in the same year in the CHL Import Draft by the Drakkar de Baie-Comeau from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec , the French decided to move to Finland. There he signed a contract with KalPa Kuopio from the Liiga in July 2017 .
In the Finnish elite class, the 18-year-old attacker gained a foothold straight away and was one of the top nine scorer points in the squad with 22 points. He was then equipped with an NHL entry contract by the Columbus Blue Jackets in May 2018 . The season 2018/19 spent Texier but on loan continue in Kuopio. At the end of 2018 he completed the Spengler Cup 2018 with the team and won the prestigious trophy with KalPa . However, after the club missed qualifying for the playoffs in the domestic league, the Blue Jackets brought him to North America in mid-March 2019. There he played seven games for the farm team , the Cleveland Monsters, in the American Hockey League (AHL) before making his debut in the NHL at the beginning of April and being a regular in Columbus' squad in the following Stanley Cup playoffs in 2019 .
International
For his home country, Texier came to numerous appearances in international tournaments, both in the junior and senior sector. He played with the U18 national team at the World Championships of Division IA in 2015 , 2016 and 2017 . In 2017, the division achieved a surprising win and the associated promotion to the top division. Texier was voted the best striker in the tournament. The attacker completed the Division IA World Championships in 2017 and 2018 with the French U20 national team .
Texier made his debut in the senior national team at the age of 17 in the 2016/17 season before he played his first international tournament in the 2018 World Cup . He missed the 2017 World Cup due to a shoulder injury. At the 2019 World Cup , he was also part of the French squad. There he had to accept relegation to Division IA with the team. He himself posted three scorer points in seven missions, including one goal.
