Dean Kukan (born July 8, 1993 in Volketswil ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League since June 2015 and for their farm team , the Cleveland Monsters , in the American Hockey League on the position of the defender plays.
Career
Kukan went through the junior division of the ZSC Lions and their cooperation partner GCK Lions . At the age of 16 he made his debut for the GCK in the National League B and two years later for the ZSC in the National League A . In the summer of 2011, the defender moved to Sweden at the age of 18, where he went on the ice for Luleå HF for the next four years - first in the J20 SuperElit , later in the first men's team in the Elitserien and later in Svenska Hockeyligan . Despite loans to Asplöven HC and Tingsryds AIF in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan during the 2012/13 season, the defender returned in time for the play-offs in the Luleås squad and reached the Swedish runner-up with the team. Two years later he won his first major club title with the Champions Hockey League .
After the success, Kukan moved to North America, where he signed a contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets from the National Hockey League . In the 2015/16 season he mainly played for their farm team , the Lake Erie Monsters , in the American Hockey League . At the end of the season he won the traditional Calder Cup with the Monsters . He was also used eight times for the Blue Jackets in the NHL. Also in the 2016/17 season he was part of the roster of the farm team, now trading as Cleveland Monsters .
International
For his home country, Kukan ran in the junior division at the U18 Junior World Championships in 2010 and 2011 and the U20 Junior World Championships in 2012 and 2013 . He also played in the World Junior A Challenges in 2010 and 2012 .
For the senior team Kukan played at the World Championships in 2014 , 2015 , 2017 and 2018 . At the 2018 World Cup, Kukan won the silver medal.
