Career

Brad Larsen began his career with the Swift Current Broncos , for which he was active for four years in the Western Hockey League . Larsen was selected in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft in the third round as the 53rd player overall by the Ottawa Senators . A year later, the rights to the player were passed on to the Colorado Avalanche . On the day of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft , he was not elected by Colorado, so he was reinstated in the Entry Draft. Then Larsen was chosen as a total of 87th player by the Avalanche, for which he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1997/98 season . In his first year in Colorado he was otherwise only in the American Hockey League for Colorado's farm team , the Hershey Bears , for use. After seven years in which Larsen was repeatedly used for both the Bears and the Avalanche, he was signed by the Atlanta Thrashers in 2004 . After he was used six times in the NHL in his first season with the Thrashers, he bridged the time of the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season exclusively with the Atlantas farm team, the Chicago Wolves . In the following three years, the attacker earned a permanent place in the NHL team. On September 26, 2008, Larsen was given to the Anaheim Ducks together with Ken Klee and Chad Painchaud in exchange for Mathieu Schneider . For the entire 2008/09 season , however, he dropped out of play due to injury and never played an encounter for the Californians. In September 2009 Larsen signed a contract with the Portland Pirates from the American Hockey League. As a regular player, he had a record of 27 points in 59 matches before ending his career at the end of the season. For the 2010/11 season Larsen was assistant coach at the Springfield Falcons under head coach Rob Riley . For the 2012/13 season he took over the role of head coach at the Springfield Falcons. He held this two seasons before the Columbus Blue Jackets signed him as an assistant coach in the run-up to the 2014/15 season.

International

As a youth player, Larsen played a total of 38 games for the U17 and U20 national teams of Canada. With the U17 he won a bronze medal at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and with the U20 in 1996 and 1997 the gold medal at the Junior World Championships.
