history

Luleå HF emerges from GroKo Hockey , which was founded in 1977 and was renamed “Luleå HF” in 1980. The club has played in the Elitserien since 1984. In the first season after promotion, the team reached 6th place. In 1987, the HF was third, which for the first time led to an average attendance of over 5,000 per game. This record was not reached in 1993, when Luleå only had to admit defeat in the final for the championship Brynäs IF . In the season after this top result it was only enough for 10th place in the league. In 1995 Luleå returned impressively with third place. In 1996, however, the team could not be stopped: against Västra Frölunda HC , the club won the play-off finals for the first time and so far for the only time Swedish ice hockey champions . This was immediately followed by the runner-up in 1997. In 1999 they came third again, and in 2000 fourth. Since then, midfield placements have been the rule. In 2012, the club achieved its greatest international success to date with the 2012 European Trophy . In the 2014/15 season Luleå won the first edition of the Champions Hockey League .

In the 2015/16 season, the club finished fourth in the main round of the Swedish league and reached the semi-finals in the play-offs, where the team was eliminated against Frölunda HC. In the Champions Hockey League, which was held at the same time, it also made it to the semi-finals, in which it failed again against Frölunda. In the following two game years, Luleå belonged to the midfield of Svenska Hockeyligan before the team finished second in the main round in the 2018/19 season. In the following playoffs it failed again against Frölunda HC. The 2019/20 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Sweden after Luleå won the main round.

In the all-time table of the Elitserien , Luleå HF is in 6th place.

Although it only has space for 6,300 fans, it also offers almost 100 VIP seats and boxes. After the move, in 2004, for the first time since 1987, an average attendance of more than 5,000 fans per game was achieved, which has remained stable since then.
