Erik Gustafsson (born December 15, 1988 in Kvissleby ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with Luleå HF from the Svenska Hockeyligan since May 2018 .
Career
Erik Gustafsson began his career as an ice hockey player in his Swedish homeland in the junior division of Timrå IK , for which he was active until 2007. He then attended Northern Michigan University for three years , for whose ice hockey team he was also active in the National Collegiate Athletic Association . There the defender reached several individual awards, after which he received a contract as a free agent with the Philadelphia Flyers from the National Hockey League on March 31, 2010 . For their farm team Adirondack Phantoms from the American Hockey League , he made his professional ice hockey debut towards the end of the 2009/10 season . By the end of the season he scored two goals and five assists in five AHL games.
In the 2010/11 season Gustafsson was a regular with the Adirondack Phantoms from the AHL. He was also on the ice in three games for the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL. The Swede also began the following season with the Adirondack Phantoms in the AHL, but was able to earn a regular place with the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL in the second half of the season. In May 2014 he left the Flyers and moved to the Russian KHL club HK Awangard Omsk .
From July 2015 Gustafsson was under contract with the Kloten Flyers from the National League A for one year and moved back to HK Awangard Omsk after the end of the 2015/16 season .
From November 2017 Gustafsson played for Neftechimik Nischnekamsk in the KHL, before he was signed by Luleå HF from Svenska Hockeyligan in May 2018 .
International
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki , Gustafsson was part of the men's national team and won the gold medal with it.
