Werner Spinner (born October 30, 1948 in Cologne ) is a German manager . From April 2012 to March 6, 2019 he was President of 1. FC Köln . From 1998 to 2003 he was a member of the Board of Management of Bayer AG .

Life

After finishing school in Cologne, he studied business administration at the University of Cologne .

From 1974 he worked for Bayer AG and spent several years at the US subsidiary Miles Inc. in the 1980s and 1990s . He held various positions in marketing and sales in the Group's health department. In 1994 he was promoted to head of what was then the Consumer Care division . In 1998 he was promoted to a board member responsible for marketing, regions (especially Asia) and services . In 2003 he left there for personal reasons.

Spinner had previously taken over the foreign trade committee of the Federation of German Industries in 2001 . In 2002 Spinner took over the chairmanship of the Japan Initiative of German Business from Hans-Olaf Henkel . Three years later he handed over the office to Bernhard Scheuble .

In April 2012, Spinner was elected President of 1. FC Köln. He was re-elected in 2014 and confirmed in office for another three years in 2016. On March 6, 2019, Spinner resigned prematurely from his post. This was preceded by an internal power struggle with sports director Armin Veh .

Spinner has served on the boards of several companies, including that of Altana .
