Albert Caspers (born February 27, 1933 in Lissendorf in the Eifel ; † January 6, 2015 in Cologne ) was a German manager and football official . He was chairman of Ford Europe and president of the soccer club 1. FC Köln and most recently chairman of the supervisory board of Ford-Werke GmbH until the end of 2008 .

Life

The family-owned Volkswagen workshop shaped Albert Caspers in his youth and ensured his interest in technology. After graduating from high school at the Bischöflichen Konvikt in Prüm , he studied mechanical engineering with a focus on production technology at RWTH Aachen University and started his professional career in 1958 at Ford-Werke AG in Cologne as a process engineer.

His rise at Ford has been steady from there:

  • 1965 00000Head of Production Planning at Ford-Werke AG
  • 1975 00000Production manager at the Halewood, Cologne and Saarlouis plants
  • 1980 00000Head of Production at Ford Europe
  • 1991 00000Vice-President Ford Motor Company
  • 1993 00000CEO of Ford-Werke AG
  • 1994 00000Chairman of Ford Europe
  • 1996–2008 Chairman of the Supervisory Board Ford-Werke AG (since 11/2004 GmbH)

In 1995, Caspers was named Man of the Year by Horizont magazine . "In recognition of his extraordinary and exemplary promotion of teaching, research and technology transfer in cooperation between RWTH Aachen University and industry", Caspers was made an honorary senator of the RWTH on December 6, 1996. With his active departure from Ford-Werke AG in 1996, he seemed to be looking for further employment. 1. FC Köln was looking for a new president at the end of 1997 and was financially troubled. Albert Caspers was asked to take on the task, not least because he had distinguished himself as a restructuring engineer at Ford and his economic expertise was respected. He became president on December 4, 1997.

In June 2004, after the club's finances had been consolidated, but sporting success had not materialized, he was replaced by Wolfgang Overath .

Caspers had been married to his wife Elisabeth since November 1957. The couple had four daughters and one son.

Honors

Caspers was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia on November 7, 1996 .
