The Salming Trophy ( German  Salming Trophy ) is an ice hockey trophy that is awarded annually to the best Swedish defender outside of the National Hockey League . The award has existed since 2008 and the winner is selected by Kamratföreningen Hockeyjournalisterna , the Swedish Association of Journalists.

The trophy is named after the former Swedish ice hockey player Börje Salming , who was the first Swede to be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996 and was elected to the Centennial All-Star Team of the International Ice Hockey Federation on the occasion of its 100th anniversary in 2008.
