Marcus Ragnarsson (* 13. August 1971 in Östervåla ) is a retired Swedish ice hockey player and current - trainer , who during his playing career from 1986 to 2010 among other 700 games for the San Jose Sharks and Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League of on Has contested the position of the defender . In addition, he completed over 400 other games in the two highest Swedish leagues, where he celebrated numerous successes, especially with Djurgårdens IF . Ragnarsson himself, who won the silver medal at the World Cup with the Swedish national team in 1995 and 1997 , received the Salming Trophy in 2009 . Since 2011 he has been employed as an assistant coach at Almtuna IS in HockeyAllsvenskan .
Career
Ragnarsson began his career in the 1989/90 season in his Swedish homeland with Djurgårdens IF . There he remained until the end of the 1994/95 season, although he had already been selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1992 in the fifth round in 99th position by the San Jose Sharks . For the 1995/96 season , the defender then moved to the NHL to North America to the Sharks. Ragnarsson played in San Jose until December 2002, but was then transferred to the Philadelphia Flyers due to the bad season for Dan McGillis . The Swede played on the US east coast until the end of the 2003/04 season .
His best NHL season, measured by his offensive statistics, he had in 1995/96 when he was able to achieve 39 points in 71 games. In the 2000/01 season he was nominated for the All-Star Game .
Also because of the lockout of the 2004/05 NHL season , Ragnarsson moved back to his homeland in Sweden, where he signed a contract with Almtuna IS in the HockeyAllsvenskan in January 2005 . He stayed there until the summer of 2008 before moving back to his home club Djurgårdens IF in the Elitserien. At Djurgården he was team captain between 2009 and 2010 and reached the Swedish runner-up with the team he led in 2010 . In November 2010 he ended his career due to a serious injury.
The Swede then started working as a trainer. In the 2010/11 season, initially for one year as an assistant coach at Djurgårdens IF and since 2011 at Almtuna IS.
International
For the Swedish national team , Ragnarsson was active at two world championships in 1995 and 1997 , two Winter Olympics in 1998 and 2002 and the World Cup of Hockey 2004 . At both world championships Ragnarsson could win the silver medal.
