history

The Almtuna IS was founded on August 9, 1932 and initially operated the football , bandy and table tennis sections . Ice hockey was added to the club's offer in 1947. In the 1980s, the club developed into a pure ice hockey club. The greatest success in the club's history was the 1962/63 season, when the club's first team took part in Sweden's top division, today's Elitserien . However, the club rose again at the end of the season when they missed relegation in the relegation round only because of the poorer goal difference. In 1987 the club was renamed Uppsala / AIS , but since the annual general meeting in 2000 it has been called Almtuna IS again .

Almtuna belonged to the Allsvenskan in 1989/90, 1991/92 and 2001/02. In 2003 they were promoted back to this second division, where the club has held since then.

Youth teams

In addition to the first team, the club has been promoting young talent for many years and operates an ice hockey school for this purpose. The U14 junior team reached the final of the state championship against MoDo Hockey in 2000/01 , but lost it. The club's U20 team belonged to the Superelit - J20 , the top division of the U20s , in the 2004/05 season . Over the years there have been many players who started their careers in Almtuna and later played in the Elitserien. These include Jonas Almtorp ( MODO Hockey ), Robert Carlsson , Markus Matthiasson (both Timrå IK ), Nicklas Danielsson ( Brynäs IF ), Andreas Pihl ( Linköpings HC ), Johannes Salmonsson ( Djurgårdens IF ) and Mikael Wahlberg ( Malmö Redhawks ). In the 1996/97 season, Almtuna IS provided ten players to the junior national team .

In addition to the youth teams of all ages, the club also runs a women's team.
