Christian Johannes Salmonsson (born February 7, 1986 in Uppsala , Sweden ) is a Swedish - German ice hockey player who last played for the Iserlohn Roosters in the German Ice Hockey League .
Career
Salmonsson started playing ice hockey at Almtuna IS , a club in his hometown Uppsala , which plays in the second highest Swedish ice hockey league. In 2003 he was able to gain his first experience in Sweden's highest ice hockey league at Djurgårdens IF , but was also active on loan for Almtuna during this time.
In the 2004 NHL Draft Salmonsson was selected in round 2 in position 31 by the Pittsburgh Penguins , whereupon he moved to the Spokane Chiefs in the Canadian Junior League for the 2005/06 season. With 12 goals in 54 games for the Chiefs, he could not recommend himself for the NHL and moved back to the Swedish first division at Brynäs IF for the 2006/07 season . For the following season he was largely given to Rögle BK in the 2nd Swedish League, in which he was able to contribute to the club's promotion to the highest Swedish ice hockey league with 24 points (15 goals) in 34 games.
Together with his compatriot Daniel Widing , he moved to HC Davos in the highest Swiss ice hockey league for the 2009/10 season . With his new club, he took part in the league games as well as in the 2009 Spengler Cup . The striker was temporarily loaned out to Davos league rivals EHC Biel during the season, also due to the strict foreigner regulations in the Swiss ice hockey league .
From the 2010/11 season he played again in his home country for the traditional club AIK , which was promoted to the highest league in the country this season. In the following 2 years he was able to reach the semi-finals of the play-offs with AIK. Also with Linköpings HC , to which he switched for the 2012/13 season, he was in the play-off semi-finals of the Swedish elite league for the next three years. In particular, his performance in the play-offs and his speed prompted his compatriot and trainer at the Kölner Haien , Niklas Sundblad , to sign him for the 2015/16 season .
In August 2018, after receiving his German passport, he moved to the Iserlohn Roosters .
International
Johannes Salmonsson has been appointed to all Swedish junior national teams. In 2004, 2005 and 2006 he took part in the U20 ice hockey world championships for his home country.
Personal
Salmonsson has German ancestors on her mother's side. In the summer of 2017 he received German citizenship after successfully taking a language test and a naturalization test.
