history

The E.ON Arena, home of the Red Eagles

The sports club was founded on May 11, 1928 with the name Wifstavarnas IK and had a section in ice hockey since 1938. In 1942 the club merged with another club from the same place and in 1956 reached the top division. In 1964 another club joined and two years later the name changed to Timrå IK.

At the beginning of the 1970s, the team won top placements in the championship, but when the Elitserien were established as the top division in 1975, the club was relegated. For a long time you were mainly in the second division and could only occasionally be promoted for a year at a time. At the beginning of the 1990s, an attempt was made to unite the club with the Sundsvall Hockey club . Since no significant progress was made, the teams separated again.

From 1995 the club began to improve and in the 1999/2000 season they were promoted to the top division. The greatest successes recently were reaching the semi-finals twice for the Swedish championship. After fourteen years in the first class, the team had to relegate to the second class HockeyAllsvenskan in 2013 . At the end of the 2017/18 season , they qualified for the relegation to the highest league SHL and defeated Karlskrona HK in this , so that from the following season they play in the Swedish elite league again.
