Henrik Zetterberg (born October 9, 1980 in Njurunda ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player . The center played over 1200 games for the Detroit Red Wings in the National Hockey League between 2002 and 2018 . With the team, which he led as captain for five years , he won the Stanley Cup in 2008 and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player in the playoffs. With the Swedish national team , he won Olympic gold and the world championship in 2006 , making him a member of the Triple Gold Club .

Career

Timrå IK (1997-2002)

Henrik Zetterberg started his career in the youth department of Njurunda SK . In 1997 he moved to the junior team of Timrå IK and was appointed to the professional team that same season, which played in the second-rate Allsvenskan . In his second year he established himself with the professionals and scored 15 goals in 37 league games and prepared a further 13. Detroit Red Wings (2002-2018)

In the summer of 2002, Zetterberg finally moved to the Detroit Red Wings in the NHL, where he played in a series with young star Pawel Dazjuk and veteran Brett Hull . He had a good debut season with 22 goals and 22 assists and he was nominated for the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie in the NHL. However, the Red Wings failed in the first play-off round at the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and Zetterberg was able to play for the Swedish national team at the World Cup , where they won the silver medal.
