Kristopher "Kris" King (born February 18, 1966 in Bracebridge , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who played 916 games for the Detroit Red Wings , New York Rangers , Winnipeg Jets , Phoenix during his active career between 1983 and 2000 Coyotes , Toronto Maple Leafs and Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League on the left winger position . Career
King played in the Ontario Hockey League for the Peterborough Petes between 1983 and 1987 during his junior years . The Washington Capitals of the National Hockey League selected him in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round as 80th. He stayed in Peterborough for some time and also played seven games in the American Hockey League for the Binghamton Whalers . However, there was never a contract with the Capitals.
In 1987 he signed as a free agent with the Detroit Red Wings . In the 1987/88 season he played mostly in the AHL farm team with the Adirondack Red Wings and only came to three missions in the NHL. The following year he made his breakthrough in the NHL. Above all, his robust and body-hugging style of play was appreciated. The New York Rangers brought him for the 1989/90 season . He spent his best three and a half years there before he was transferred to the Winnipeg Jets together with Tie Domi for Ed Olczyk . He and the team moved to Phoenix in 1996 after winning the King Clancy Memorial Trophy that summer for leadership and social engagement on and off the ice.
For the 1997/98 season he was hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs . In his third season there, he often had to make way for younger players. In the 2000/01 season he tried again with the Chicago Blackhawks . But even here he only managed 13 missions before ending his career.
