Edward Walter "Eddie" Olczyk (born August 16, 1966 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach of Italian - Polish descent who worked for the Chicago Blackhawks , Toronto Maple Leafs , Winnipeg Jets , New York Rangers , Los Angeles Kings and Pittsburgh Penguins played in the National Hockey League .

Career

Olczyk was drawn in the 1984 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round as the third overall pick. In the following season he made the leap into the NHL. After three very good years in Chicago, he moved to the Toronto Maple Leafs . There he was top scorer in the first two years. In 1990, Olczyk moved to the Winnipeg Jets . After another two years he went to the New York Rangers , with whom he won the Stanley Cup in the 1993/94 season . After two years in Manhattan , Olczyk returned to Winnipeg.

At the age of 30 he moved to the Los Angeles Kings for the 1996/97 season . He no longer played at the level of his youth. During the season he moved to Pittsburgh Penguins . For the 1998/99 season he returned to the Chicago Blackhawks and ended his active career there in 2000.

In the 2003-04 season , Ed Olczyk was the head coach of the Pittsburgh Penguins .

On October 15, 2012, he was inducted into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame for his services to ice hockey in the United States .

Today he works in the television environment for the Chicago Blackhawks and, among other things, for the game series EA Sports NHL as an in-game commentator.
