Wren Blair

Wren Blair (born October 2, 1925 in Lindsay , Ontario , † January 2, 2013 in Whitby , Ontario) was a Canadian ice hockey coach and official.

Life

Before his career in the National Hockey League (NHL), Wren Blair was the coach and manager of the amateur ice hockey club Whitby Dunlops , with which he won the Allan Cup in 1957 and 1959 . He then coached the Kingston Frontenacs in the Eastern Professional Hockey League . In 1960 he was active as a scout for the NHL and negotiated between the Boston Bruins and Bobby Orr , among others . In the 1967/68 NHL season he coached the Minnesota North Stars in the National Hockey League . The following season he was replaced by John Muckler . However, Muckler was unsuccessful and had to leave the North Stars during the current season, Wren Blair was again signed as his successor. In the season 1969/1970 Blair was fired after 32 games of Minnesota and replaced by Charlie Burns . From July 1975 to December 1976 he was General Manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins .

In 1997 he was honored with the Bill Long Award for his services to the Ontario Hockey League .

Wren Blair died in Whitby, Ontario, aged 87.
