Career
During his three years at college from 1963 to 1966, Ferreira guarded the gate of Boston University , but decided early on against continuing an active career and in 1969 took a job as an assistant coach at Princeton University for a year . He then worked as an assistant coach at Brown University for a year .
From 1972 to 1977 Ferreira worked for the New England Whalers in the World Hockey Association (WHA), among other things as chief scout , assistant coach and assistant general manager. After his time with the Whalers, he scouted for three years with the National Hockey League for the Central Scouting Service (CSS). In 1988, the American then accepted an offer from the Minnesota North Stars as General Manager and Vice President. This was followed by the move to the new NHL franchise of the San Jose Sharks in 1990, where he was also vice president and general manager. Due to a miserable season, the Sharks released him at the end of the 1991/92 season , whereupon he went as a scout to the Montreal Canadiens . There he won the Stanley Cup as a member of the team in 1993 , before moving to the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim for seven years at the beginning of the 1993/94 season. The first five years Ferreira was General Manager and thus responsible for the selection of Paul Kariya in the NHL Entry Draft 1993 , as well as for the engagement of Teemu Selännes . From 1998 he was Vice President for the remaining two years of his engagement in Anaheim. Ferreira then went to the Atlanta Thrashers and worked there in the scouting department of the franchise and was assistant to General Manager Don Waddell until the end of the 2006/07 season .
